He was born in Greece (Corfu), but is not Greek by descent, as his appearance demonstrates.

When the Greeks wanted to restore the monarchy in 1911, they needed to import a family that knew the ropes, so they offered the crown to a minor branch of the Danish royal family. The new King's nephew was Prince Philip's father.

On his mother's side, Prince Philip is German. She was a Battenberg (Mountbatten).

The answer to your question is yes and no. Yes, he was born in Greece and he was born a Prince of Greece and Denmark. This however does not tell the whole story. He does not have any Greek ancestry at all. He is of mostly German and Danish ancestry with a little French, Russian, and Scottish mixed in.
