No the word procreate is not a noun. It is a regular verb.
Walking sticks (the insects) procreate. If they did not procreate there wouldn't be any. Walking sticks (the kind you use when you go hiking) do not procreate. They are made out of dead wood.
By definition, there is no difference. A dictionary will mention as one of its definitions "to create" under defining "procreate".

The need to procreate
I live to procreate.
Its often perceived as being "horny". The need to procreate is self-conscious to an extent. It is in every human regardless if they want kids. The want for kids, in my belief, is more culturally driven. The want for sex can be enough to determine an urge to procreate.
