Theme: We are often accused of being insensitive and unaware of the importance of lives around us. We need to remember that the world we know won't be the same without the plants and animals which are a part of its identity. For example, the Olive Ridley turtles, an endangered species, lay eggs in the beaches of Orissa every year. And we do a terrible job of keeping the adult turtles or the eggs safe.

Many other species have become extinct. This issue is serious enough to warrant a close inspection.

A safe heaven: Do you think zoos are the best places to keep and rear animals or are sanctuaries the better option? What are the advantages and shortcomings of zoos? Tell us based on your observations/readings of zoos and sanctuaries.

Kill the killings: Poaching is a serious problem and endangered species are mostly targeted by poachers. Do some reading on this issue and write a brief essay on what should be done to eliminate poaching and protect wildlife all over the world.

With us no more: Many birds and animals which were once plentiful have now become extinct. Some have become totally extinct while some exist only in a few locations and are in the endangered list.

Choose any two species of animals and birds which can be found no more and tell us about them. You can talk about where they were found, their features and how they became extinct.

In their words: Have you ever wondered what animals might tell us if they could talk to us? What do you think they think about humans? Let's try to see this contemporary world from an animal's point of view. Put yourself in the place of an animal or bird and write an essay on your surroundings and human beings.

On screen: Several movies/television serials have been made on animals. Some about their lives and thoughts (Jungle Book, Ice Age etc) while others about their battle against us (Jaws, Anaconda and so on).

What is your favourite movie in this category? Tell us the story briefly and let us know why it is your favourite.
