It will be one of me more straight grained woods you can find in the US. The southern yellow pine variety (which is found in most retailers of lumber) will have fairly straight grain and will provide good support and structure.
Wood has a huge range of price. Construction lumber is about halfway in cost between cheap 'utility' lumber and the really expensive hardwoods for making furniture.
Changes in logging and land management regulations, legislation affecting lumber imports or exports and stricter air pollution laws, may drive up the cost of lumber.
The free, seemingly unlimited supply of lumber was very attractive to the Crown.
A shed can be made out of almost any wood. Most are softwoods so the most expensive will be well seasoned fine grained softwood. Of course, there is nothing to stop you building a shed with hardwood. It's slower growing so they are far more expensive than most softwoods. Lumber such as oak would be a fine choice as it needs no preservatives and will last for many years. It is unlikely that there will be a more hard wearing wood than oak so that is probably going to be the most expensive wood that is still a sensible choice.
You have to ask Gotz to build you a Lumber Shed, build it out of stone because n the extremely windy or snowy days there is a possibilty that it could get blown away. If possible build it out of Gold Lumber, but keep in mind it is very expensive. Hope this helps. :)
Laminated lumber is heavier due to the fact that they are more dense and contain adhesives as a bonding agent.

I'm not sure what you mean by raw wood. Green wood that hasn't been dried out? Or fresh timber that has not been sawn into lumber? Or just lumber that has not been reclaimed from other completed items? You can purchase ebony lumber from many wood supply sources. It is heavy, hard and expensive, it only grows in Western Africa.
No, the noun lumber is not used as a collective noun. The collective noun for lumber is a stack of lumber.
