I'm not sure you would call it dangerous, but I myself became allergic to FD&C red dye #40. It was in several of the pink liquid antibiotics I took when I was young. I kept breaking out in hives and they thought I was becoming allergic to the antibiotics. We figured it out when I had a single slice and bake sugar cookie with a red snowman in the middle. A half hour later I was starting to itch. I don't think I've had an episode since (as far as hives go) but I've found that I'm sensitive to any strong concentration of dye--they taste HORRIBLE.
