Best Answer

The term retardation refers to any slowing, ex. retarded growth, mental function,

maturation, the list goes on and on.

If we take mental retardation as an example it can be caused by lack of nutrition (particularly vitamin deficiency but of course food in general is a prime cause), hypoxia (lack of oxygen to the brain not resulting in death), disease, heredity, or it can be somatic, resulting from improper division of reproductive cells during meiosis. While some instances of somatic mental retardation are chromosomal accidents (i.e. two normal parents produce a child with Down syndrome) it can also

be inherited through a Down Syndrome parent.

If you want information on a specific type of retardation a more specific question may get you the answer you need.

What does alcohol do to your reproductive system?

Great English writer Shakespeare said about alcohol that " It provokes the desire but takes away the performance" and same seems to be true with smoking as it stimulates the Nicotinic receptors present in ganglion of autonomic nervous system stimulates both sympathetic and parasympathetic systems by stimulating ganglion. ( Once Mark twain said " Quitting smoking is very easy. I have done it 1000 times.) ( Probably addiction to both alcohol and smoking is managed by genes of each. ) In short, there is no dramatic effect on the male reproductive system of both of them but beware of those "Drugs". You never "TRY' them as you may get addiction from the very first dose.

What is the function of the nucleus in cell division?

The nucleus play many important roles 1. Carries heridtary information- information that determine what kind of cell it is- as genes in chromosomes. 2. At the time of mitosis/meiosis nucleus coils the chromosomes and duplicates them-making a set of brains for the daughter cell. 3. The nucleus divides into two segments- effetively dividing the generic material. 4. The nucleus sends mesages to the mitochodria to produce more energy. 5. Makes ER create more proteins 6. Gives command for cytokenesis- spliting up into two cells by 'pinching' the cell membranes
