Rice allergy may not be common in the western world but reported in Japan where rice is the major staple grain. I am myself born of a mixed race, have rice allergy. I have to avoid many medications or vitamin pills as many of them contain brown rice powder. It was only after drinking the rice wine called 'saki', i had a terrible Asthma attack and it was difficult for me to breath that i came to know about some problem from rice.
I am symptom free for long time. My guess is that many wheat flour cookies are mixed with rice flour to save cost, so i make my own bread or buy only those that don't give me any problem.
