Persons under six years of age are not permitted to ride in the bed of a pickup on any road in Tennessee. It is not recommended that anyone ride in the cargo area of any vehicle and in most states it is illegal. In places where there is no law against it, if anyone under 18 is riding in the back, the driver could easily be convicted of endangering a child.

It is technically illegal to drive with your tailgate down in Tennessee. This is considered to be an unsecured load, even if there is nothing in the bed of the truck. This is only considered a violation.
