It depends on what file / files you're seeding. If you're seeding any illegal files (copyrighted movies, porn, paid softwares, etc.) you may fall into trouble. You may face legal problems. So seeding these sort of files isn't safe.
In case you're downloading legal files or free to share files like Linux, Ubuntu like OS, free e-books, freeware, etc. then seeding them won't cause any problems and is supported by law.

Because you are seeding the file, stop seeding the file. and while your at it install some peer protection like peer guardian or a really good firewall. torrents are notoriously ridden with hackers and anti p2p agency which will attempt to mess your computer up
A seed is a client (a person) that has a complete copy of whatever torrent you`re downloading. Increase your max upload speed. Vuze will limit your download speed based on your willingness to upload. Or find torrents that have more people seeding. Either would be good options to start with.
