Humans all need sleep in order for their bodies to function during the next day. Those with sleep disorders are not getting to the REM stage of sleep and not getting enough rest and will fall asleep on the job or behind the wheel of a vehicle. People who suffer from sleep apnea may be eligible for a C-PaP machine (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) to aid in sleep at night. Having been a user of a C-PaP for over 11 years it has helped my symptoms greatly and I can lead a pretty normal life. Whenever I lay down, even for a short nap, I always use the C-PaP machine. For dry climates one can get a humidifier attachment which heats water (use distilled water ONLY) and makes the sleep more comfortable and less drying out in the nasal cavities. Again if you use a humidifier attached to the C-PaP ONLY use distilled water ... the reason being is that all the harmful chemicals have been filtered out and there is no chlorine smell to the water as you are breathing during the night.
Sleep apnea could be dangerous. Some people with sleep apnea sleep with an oxygen mask on to avoid risks. What you are describing is not sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is about abnormal rhythm in breathing while asleep. Falling asleep while talking to people is another case.
