No. Suboxone may cause birth defects.

If a woman taking Suboxone becomes pregnant, tell your doctor right away. It is important to discuss the benefits and risks of the medication to decide when, how, and if you should stop taking Suboxone. You should discuss this with both the doctor prescribing Suboxone and with your obstetrician/gynecologist.

From the research I have done on this subject, a flat out "NO" is not a correct answer. Especially considering that there are not conclusive studies supporting it.. In my humble opinion, I would advise a woman that becomes pregnant to discuss this with her OB/GYN BEFORE DISCONTINUING Suboxone. Primarily due to "conclusive studies" that indicate withdrawals from Opiates or Opiates w/ partial antagonist -DO INCREASE THE RISK OF MISCARRIAGE. In any case this is an incredibly personal decision and not one that should be taken lightly nor w/o the advice of your OB. In addition, studies suggest that it is the Naloxen (sp?) that can POSSIBLY cause risk to your baby- not the bupenephrine; therefore, expectant mothers might consider asking their physician about Subutex.

There is no question that the "ideal" situation is that pregnant women be able to avoid medications in general, however this is an unrealistic expectation. ESPECIALLY for women that suffer from the disease of addiction that are actively taking steps towards their recovery. You should be proud of yourself and give pause to the information acquired solely via the internet and discuss all options before making any decisions.
