There is no definite proof of either of them being dangerous. In moderation, both of them are pretty harmless to the body. Unless you are suffering from a disorder or a disease that makes you intolerant to either one of them.

Salt, But That's Not To Say That It's A Healthy ChoiceThough sugar and salt can each have serious negative health consequences, making them both unhealthy if not used in moderation, salt is the healthier of the two. Table sugar has no nutritional value and can aggravate asthma, cause mood swings and personality changes, bring about Diabetes, speed up Heart disease, grow gallstones, hasten hypertension (high blood pressure), and provoke Arthritis. In addition, it can have negative effects on mental illness and nervous disorders.

Table salt, though a source of sodium, is usually not needed as an additive to food at the table before eating. Sodium is an ingredient in a wide variety of foods we eat, especially processed foods, so we usually get enough from them. Too much sodium can lead to high blood pressure, which can in turn lead to heart disease and strokes, and even though it contains sodium, many people eat way too much salt.

Only the fact that salt has nutritional value makes it the healthier of the two. Both salt and sugar can have serious adverse effects on health and should be used in moderation.

It depends.

Salt

  • Salt (or sodium chloride) is bad for people with high blood pressure, as it elevates their blood pressure even more - not good
  • Generally, salt is fine for most people, but no more than 2400mg per day at maximum for adults
  • If you are not sure about your blood pressure and concerned about salt intake, get your blood pressure measured

Fat

  • Fat is fine for everyone, but certain fats are more recommended than other fats
  • We need to have some fat in the diet as it is required for a whole range of processes - to make bile, to absorb the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and to make certain hormones
  • Saturated fat is deemed to be unhealthy at high levels in the diet - especially for people with heart disease - but you need some saturated fat in the die. It is better to get your saturated fat from natural foods and not from highly processed junk foods, which are not only packed with saturated fats, but also artificial additives and trans-fats (which are toxic to the heart and blood vessels)
  • Unsaturated and polyunsaturated fat is good for us and is required for many processed in the body
  • Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are also called essential fatty acids (the body cannot make them, so we need to have them in our diet) and these fats are necessary for many parts of the body (cell walls, brain health) and should be part of a healthy diet
