Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not command us to celebrate his birthday. Doing that would be to make an invention (Bidaa) in Islam - something which he made forbidden to do.
The Prophet said that in the religion of Allah, there are only two holidays: Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha.
