Yes, but why would you want to? a 350 is a much more reliable, more powerful engine than the 305 which was plagued with problems and had very little power.
The starters are compatible with both engines, just the 350 starter will probably put out more torque than the 305.
There is no cheap and easy way to make this swap, aside from finding a donor car for parts. And why would you install a 305? If you are going to do it, install a 350. Way better and more powerful engine than the 305. If the 305 will fit then the 350 will fit. You can buy a brand new, (Not Rebuilt), 350 for less than $2,000 with a 3/36 warranty.
the pistons are the same diameter. no they are not the same diameter, the bore on a 305 is smaller than a 350
No. 305's have small valves due to the 305's small bore. Large valve heads can't be used on the 305 because the valves will hit the cylinder block. 350 heads breathe MUCH better than 305 heads. Stick with the 350 heads.
The 305 & 350 are basically the same engine. The 305 just has a smaller bore(3.736 vs. 4.000), not quite the power or torque, but durability should be almost identical. It is more costy to rebuild a 305 than a 350 due to the popularity of the 350. If power is not an issue then go for the 305 if you can get one cheaper. If you want more power, then a 350 is the way to go.
Subtract 305 from 350 and that will give you the difference (or interval) between the two numbers:- the answer is 45. However, if you mean what is the difference between a Chevy 305 and a Chevy 350, then it is the difference between the engine bore (the cylinder) sizes. The 305 bore is 3.740 inches. And the 350 bore is 4.000 inches, giving the Chevy 350 20HP more then the Chevy 305.
305 can B beffed up but its small bore limits its hp limits. 350 gives u more hp 4 ur dollars. go with the 350 u will b happer and have a heaver walet 2 carry around.
The easiest way is to look at the Harmonic Balancer. The 305 has a wider thicker balancer than the 350. Pus the timing tab on a 305 is located ON the timing cover and the 350 is bolted on the with the cover bolts. Riky9
5.0L is a 305. 5.7L is a 350
you dont. the money it would cost in machine work and parts is way more than a 350 would cost to buy.
i'd say about 200..idk where ppl get 170 from off a stock 305 fuel injected..dont under estimate the 305 & to be honest 305's are more durable & last a bit longer than 350's..350's barely have an advantage on 350's on hp & torque but never the less their both chevy's horay lol!
