Cosmos atrosanguineus is extinct in the wild. It has never been found in its habitat (Mexico) since it's original collection for horticultural uses in 1902. Every plant of this species are clones, obtained by asexual reproduction of the originally collected individual, since this species cannot self-pollinate.
