quick reference: Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. == == == == === === NO, it is not a violation, because the fish is not a graven image aside from the Lord. It is about the Lord. It is amazing what lengths one will go to find something wrong with what a well meaning Christian (that has a fish on his car) does.

It is not a violation because Jesus Christ, Son of Man, Savior is the acronym in English for the Greek word Ichthus which means fish. Also fish were spoken of frequently in The Bible. Some of Jesus followers were fishermen and he told them that he would make them fishers of men, speaking of when they would become Apostles and preach his word. Jesus did miracles with loaves and fishes by multiplying a few to feed thousands. There are other areas of the Bible that fish are significant. The fact that Jesus would consider a simple unworldly thing such as fishing says a lot about what a wonderful, humble man and God that he was to get on the every man's level.

Exodus 20 v4 only relates to bowing down and worshiping an object, so you'd have to say that unless someone was doing that to the fish sticker, it wouldn't be wrong. Can't say I've seen too many people doing that...

The fish symbol is generally used to signify that you are a follower of Jesus.
