It depends on how domestic and trained the cat is. If the Savannah is any higher than about a F2 or F3 it needs to be taught discipline, especially with young children. They are high maintenance so if they are in a grumpy mood or restless they will bite, swipe, etc. So the kids will need to know not to pick them up. Ever. Unless you are taking it to a specific place or have a specific reason you should NOT pick up a Savannah cat. They are very big so it hurts them if you hold them the wrong way. You have to hold them where you are holding their rear end in one arm and their front to where they are resting on your shoulder. There is a risk that they will bite your neck or hiss if they get uncomfortable. They are very territorial so if they are messed with or picked up they will bite or hiss. If you are worried about scratching then you could have them declawed but they WILL bite more. So you have to pick: biting or scratching? Having them 'fixed' will help with their territorial problems and aggressiveness.

But on the other hand, when Savannah cats are in good moods they are very sweet, loving, gentle, etc. So if your kids are out of the toddler age then they will be good because they loove to play. Regular domestic cats are either to skittish or they sleep all the time so a Savannah could be a good choice of cat. If you have a toddler just learning to walk I wouldn't suggest a Savannah because where they are excited they like to run around and they could topple over your toddler.

Really, it's up to you. I would suggest a F1 or F2 Savannah because they are less likely to be aggressive and they are smaller but they still love to play and are more affectionate then the usual house cat.

With Savannah Cat breeding, the number after the F is how far removed from being a wild cat the generation is. An F1 cat is bred directly from a Serval cat and a Bengal cat. An F7 Savannah is bred from other Savannah cats and is a 7th generation from the original two cats that were bred together to create it.
