Fuel Pump most likely.
Your A/C belt is loose and needs to be tightend or replaced.
it could be that your exhaust pipe is lose, i saw a Forester (a litttle newer than that) with the same problem.
If I understand your question, the noise that you hear is called "piston slap". It is not exactly a click, probably closer to a knock. This goes away on my 2000 Forester after just a few minutes of running even in the coldest weather. Turn the radio up a bit and enjoy your Subaru. --Ken

A noisy fuel pump in a 1995 Subaru Impreza could be a sign of oncoming failure. Check the pump for the source of the noise, and it is probably a good idea to replace it.
The manual specifies only Subaru fluid. If this is not available Dexron III can be used until Subaru fluid is available. Noise and hard shifting will be the result.

The wheel bearings of the Subaru should be checked. Worn wheel bearings create a whirling noise, that gets louder as the car picks up speed.
More likely u-joints if only when shaft turns.
