All VCR's work with High Definition tv's,but you'll usually only be able to play back and record in standard definition or Super VHS.

I have no idea how old this is but for people who come here in the future if you lose the remote nothing you do seems to change it to game mode. Just invest in a inexpensive vcr hook up the coax to your output to tv hook up w/e audio video cords you have to the back of the vcr and enjoy not having to buy a stupid remote for a cheaply made tv with no input button ffs
A VCR stand is not necessary to make a VCR working properly as it is only a piece of furniture used to hold the VCR. A VCR will work as long as it is plugged into the wall and hooked up to a TV.
