An American night heron is a species of small heron found in warm coastal regions in the Americas, Latin name Nyctanassa violacea.
There are many different species of Herons. I didn't find any of them listed on the Endangered Species List (US Fish and WildLife Services). Some specific species are listed by individual states as threatened or endangered. As to the general populations of all Herons facing extinction, I can find no evidence to support such a statement. The White-Bellied Heron, and the White-Eared Night Heron, are listed as endangerd, but I found no forecast for their extinction.
