It is a childrens Fairy Story and as such is pure fantasy.
There are many science fiction stories- the whole Atlantis genre, for example that have nothing to do with Space Travel but do go to Inner space- underwater, time travel, etc. Prepare to submerge! Flood l; 3; 5; 7. take her down fast! A space fantasy isn't necessarily science fiction. As the name suggests a space fantasy would be a fantasy set in space, with an absence of (much) applied science. For example STAR WARS has precious little science in it and THE FORCE is fantasy. It would be a space fantasy.

No, but most little kids like to just start there little funny fantasy tales.
Science fiction is a very wide genre. There is hard science fiction with chemistry, biology and astronomy. This is your basic Asimov, Clarke, and Pohl. There is social science fiction with sociology and politics. This is your Bradbury's Farenheit 451 and Martian Chronicles. There is adventure science fiction with comic book heroes. There is humorous science fiction such as Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. There is little doubt that the hard science fiction is pure science fiction but most will differ about the other types.

In the realm of fiction defined as science fiction, science is used every where in the spectrum from vile abuse to credible application. -- added answer --- Hard science is usually written by people who are scientiffically literate , even if they don't have degrees, and usually treat science pretty close to reality. Soft science pretty much uses it as little more than a "science theme" , but might as well be a fantasy novel full of magic, they're just blaming science for it instead of wizards. George Lucas's Star Wars would be an example of soft science. I Robot staring Will Smith would be an example of hard science.

Sounds like ( The Punisher) which is crime fiction and not science fiction. Sound a little like the back story of Dr. Doom from the fantastic four comic book.
