I know that pica is caused by some sort of mineral deficiency in a persons body and its usually the lack of iron. Often the substance eaten by someone with pica contains the mineral in which that individual is deficient. Mental health conditions, such as OCD and schizophrenia sometimes cause pica. It has also been mentioned that maybe stress that is associated with traumatic events can lead to pica disorder. The traumatic events I'm referring to is parental separation, child abuse, or maternal deprivation.

I have an Eating Disorder too, primarily Bulimia, and I suffer with the same problem. It's known as 'Pica'- cravings or wants to eat inedible substances. Mine is Wooden lolly pop sticks and candle wax. When i eat the wooden sticks i break them into tiny splinter-size pieces and eat them. With the wax i melt it into the palm of my hand and let it solidify and then eat it. I don't understand it either, but it's really bad for your health! There's all sorts of chemicals used on flower pots. Are you getting any help with your eating disorder? I'd recommend that more than anything, as to solve the pica you need to solve what is causing it- the eating disorder. Otherwise, is there any way you can get rid of these flower pots so they won't be there to eat? They could be doing serious damage internally...your digestive system can't deal with these substances. I hope you find a way to stop this, and to recover from your eating disorder. I know what it's like for me, so i can only imagine you must be suffering the same. All the luck in the world! Amy x
