The internet is no more an evil than was the plough in the time of Jesus. It is simply a tool that enables us to be more productive and improve our lives. Of course, just as ploughshares could be beaten into swords, so also the internet can be used for improper purposes. Those are problems of humans, not of the ploughs or the internet.

Answer:

Most, if not all, of man's technological advances can have an evil application as well as good and positive ones.

The modern Internet certainly fits Daniel's end time prophecy in which:

"...many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased." (Dan.12:4)

The Internet is a virtual "explosion of knowledge" [useful or otherwise] in these last days, whereby we may travel the expanse of the globe... from a chair... in search of knowledge about anything and everything.

The NIV says it this way: "...Many will go here and there to increase knowledge."

If that's not an apt description of "Surfing the Internet"... then, nothing is.

The modern Internet can be a wonderful and useful invention. But, most things to which man has access turns to evil. It's been this way from the beginning.

"And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." (Gen.6:5)

So, the modern Internet, certainly, cannot be ruled out as one more potential evil in the hands of men.
