The Malthusian theory is correct because the prosperity of humans depend upon the resources available in this world. Suppose there is some organic content that makes some percentage of earth's mass. And suppose that humans and other living things are formed of that organic content. And further suppose that humans need that organic content to survive i.e. humans consume that organic content. Now more the humans born, more is the requirement for that organic content and lesser will be the amount of that organic content. Hence no absolute prosperity. That proves the Malthusian theory.

Distinguish between optimum theory and malthusian theory?

Optimum theory proposes that there is an ideal population size that maximizes societal welfare and economic efficiency, whereas Malthusian theory posits that population growth will outstrip resources leading to famine and suffering unless controlled by preventive checks (like war, disease, or lack of resources) or positive checks (like famine, disease, or war). Optimum theory focuses on the balance between population and resources for societal well-being, while Malthusian theory highlights the consequences of unchecked population growth.
