The name on US Army uniforms is the soldier's last name. The regulation allows for hyphenated last names, but not for including a middle name. However, there always is an opportunity to request an exception to most regulations. If you think you have a compelling reason for including your middle name, send your request through your chain of command to an approving authority.

I'm not in the us army i am in the British army but the reason why they have second names on their uniform is that when you join the forces you are only called by your second name as there could be countless Danny's, David's, Josh's and so on but not many will have the same second name therefore easier to find a person you are looking for. Bosma: and that is exactly true in the U.S. forces as well.
