Actually, Mexico possesses six different regions:Baja California Peninsula - the large and thin peninsula protruding from southern California on northwestern MexicoNorthern Mexico - the often-arid area bordering the United StatesThe Bajio - historic states in a silver-mining region of MexicoCentral Mexico - the densest populated area in Mexico, dominated by Mexico CityPacific Coast - Mexico's tropical southern coastYucatan Peninsula - the flat, triangle-shaped peninsula protruding from southeastern Mexico into the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.
Only the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexicoqualify as such. The United States is also bordered by the Atlantic Ocean (Eastern seaboard) and the Arctic Ocean (Alaska). On the other hand, Mexico has access to the Gulf of California (west of Baja California peninsula) and the Caribbean Sea (east of Yucatan peninsula).
The largest peninsula in North America is the Baja California Peninsula, located in Mexico. It extends about 775 miles (1,250 km) southwards from the border with the United States.
There are two of them. One would be the Florida peninsula in the United States; the other would be the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. See related questions below for details on the Yucatan peninsula.
Mexico acts as a bridge between the United States to the north and Central America to the south. It has shores on the Gulf of Mexico to the east, while its western shores touch the Gulf of California, as well as the Gulf of Tehuantepec, which are part of the much larger Pacific Ocean.
The Gulf of Mexico and Gulf of California are two gulfs near the U.S., the first lying between the southern states and the West Indies, the latter between the Baja Peninsula of California and Mexico.
Baja California is a peninsula that extends along the Pacific coast south of the US state of California. It remained part of Mexico after the Mexican Cession of 1848 that gave most of the region (Alta California) to the US following the Mexican-American War. It consists of two Mexican states, Baja California (capital Mexicali) and Baja California Sur in the south (capital La Paz).Baja California is separated from the mainland by the Gulf of California (sometimes referred to as the Sea of Cortes). It includes the resort Cabo San Lucas at the tip of the peninsula, where it crosses the Tropic of Cancer.
A peninsula is a medium to large body of land surrounded by water but connected to the mainland. Some examples in Mexico include the Baja California and Yucatan peninsulas; in the United States the Florida peninsula is the most known of them all.
