Is the primer bulb on a 6.5 HP Briggs engine supposed to be fill with gas or air?

The primer on a 6.5 hp Quantum or Intek Briggs and statton engine is an air chamber that when you press it pushes air through the carby bowl and forces a small amount of fuel(gas) up through the main jet and into the intake system.

Why won't my Briggs and Stratton 4.5 HP lawn mower engine prime I have removed and cleaned the carb. The primer worked properly before disassembly. Now the bulb won't shoot fuel into the carb?
The primer bulb probably needs to be replaced unless either one of the fuel hoses leading in and out of the primer bulb bracket is clogged. Be sure you mark how each fuel line goes before you remove the bulb so you can replace them correctly. Hmmm. Thinking more about it: If the primer worked properly before disassembly, chances are you crossed up the fuel lines when re-installing. Try switching them.

How do you replace the primer bulb on a Briggs Engine?
Not easy w/out the proper tools. If you're sure you're going to replace it, you can tear it out w/ pliers, just be sure to get out the stepped plastic retaining ring that holds the bulb in. CAREFULLY use two small flathead screwdrivers to snap the new one in.
