The Sun is a star, which is why it glows and gives off light and heat. The objects which orbit a star are called planets. Our star (the Sun) is orbited by 8 major planets which are, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
