I have a '79 Dodge Xplorer myself and I know that it can be very fidgety getting the thing to turn over if you don't have the battery terminals well hooked up. What have you tried to do thus far?
The drain hole is under and behind the accumulator.(the black cylindrical item on the passenger side under the hood).
It sounds like the heater core is leaking. Check for the smell of antifreeze and that will confirm the bad heater core.
