There have been updated remakes before, so chances are that there will be other updated remakes. For example, there has been talk of an updated remake for the Sci Fi Channel, and of updated remakes by John Boorman [b. January 18, 1933] and by the team of Todd McFarlane [b. March 16, 1961] and Josh Olson
There may be others in addition to these:
"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" (1987). Animated. Stars Morgan Hallet, George Morris.
"The Marvelous Land of Oz" (1987). Animated. Stars Morgan Hallet, George Morris.
"Ozma of Oz" (1987). Animated. Stars Morgan Hallet.
"The Emerald City of Oz" (1987). Animated. Stars Morgan Hallet.
"The Dreamer of Oz" (1990). Biography of Frank Baum. Stars John Ritter, Annette O'Toole, Rue McClanahan, Charles Haid.
"The Muppets' Wizard of Oz" (2005). Stars Ashanti, Jeffrey Tambor, Quentin Tarantino, David Alan Grier, Queen Latifah, and the Muppets.
"The witches of Oz" (2011). Television mini-series. Stars Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, Jeffrey Combs.
There are no feature film remakes planned in the near future. However, There was a Muppets Wizard of Oz a few years ago. And there was a Sci Fi series, "Tin Man" that was loosely based on the Wizard of Oz.
Their was a Return to Oz, but personally i think it is far too scary for children. The wizard of oz was going to have a second film but they never got around to doing it
There is no remake ... yet ... of "The Wizard of Oz."Specifically, there have been adaptations of the original 1900 book edition and the beloved 1939 film version of "The Wizard of Oz." Examples include "The Wiz" in 1978, "The Muppets' Wizard of Oz" in 2005 and "Tin Man" in 2007. The film "Return to Oz" in 1985 operates as a sequel. But there was talk in 2010 of a prequel in the form of "Oz: The Great and Powerful" and of an actual remake of "The Wizard of Oz" by Robert Zemeckis (b. May 4, 1952).
The book is Ozma of Oz. The movie is Return to Oz. Neither are remakes. Both are sequels.
Assuming you're reffering to the 1939 Wizard of Oz, a remake of the 1925 movie (there was also a short released in 1910 called "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and a movie from 1914 called "His Majesty, The Scarecrow of Oz"which i don't really know that much about). Judging from amount of votes on IMDb, I'd say that Star Wars is more famous than Star Wars. I don't know what the case is over the in the US. Here though, in Norway, I was aware of the Star Wars films way before Wizard of Oz
"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" (1910).

Yes, it appears that a remake of "The Wizard of Oz" may be a possibility.Specifically, Robert Zemeckis (b. May 14, 1952) included a remake among his plans for the future. He discussed this possibility in 2010. But other projects that may take time also are in his "wish" and "to do" piles.

Yes because they want to make more money for the remake they will proably cast Anne Hathaway to play Dorothy since she will Judy Garland in a future autobigraphy film about the iconic talented woman.
Yes. The wizard of Oz is a musical.
