No. Van Canto record their songs using only five vocalists and a drummer.
However, each of the five vocalists has a specific role that they play in the band. One of them (Ingo "Ike" Sterzinge) sings what would be the Bass Guitar part in a typical rock band. So, you could consider Sterzinge to be the "bassist", but he only uses his voice, not an actual bass guitar.
Like a typical bassist, Sterzinge usually "plays" in rhythm with the drummer's heavy notes, giving them a tonal pitch to go along with their percussive energy. The bass line often runs slightly in counterpoint to the "guitar" parts, rather than being perfectly in sync with them. This makes the bass line stand out a bit more strongly and adds depth to the chords being sung by the other vocalists.
He also uses other techniques common among bass guitar players, such as melodic bass lines and "special" sounds like pops and slaps. He makes those sounds using only his voice, not any external amplifiers or effects; nevertheless, they can sound remarkably like an actual bass guitar.
You can learn more about how Van Canto make and record their songs by watching their behind-the-scenes videos. Check out their YouTube channel, where they've a five-part "workshop" series.
