Epilepsy is not a mental health condition, so on that basis it would not be related to any mental health issues. Someone with Schizophrenia could also happen to have Epilepsy, as they could have any other health problem, but there is no real connection.

What does a relationship between two correlated variables have?

Correlation between two variables implies a linear relationship between them. The existence of correlation implies no causal relationship: the two could be causally related to a third variable. For example, my age is correlated with the number of TV sets in the UK but obviously there is no causal link between them - they are both linked to time.

What do line plots measure?

Usually all they do is show the values of two continuous variables for a set of values. There may or may not be a relationship between the two variables. If there is, it may or may not be a causal relationship. It does not have to be a linear relationship or even a relationship that maintains its characteristic.

Which research method is most appropriate if you are looking for a causal relationship?

A randomized controlled trial (RCT) is the most appropriate research method for investigating causal relationships. In an RCT, participants are randomly assigned to different groups, with one group receiving the treatment (independent variable) and the other acting as a control. This design allows researchers to establish causality by comparing the outcomes between the groups.

Causal laws are fundamental in scientific explanations and predictions.
