Is there a computer to worry about when changing the ignition switch on a 1993 Escort 19 L?

Nothing to worry about just disconnect the negative battery cable before you start and then you can't hurt anything.

I just replaced the ignition switch and lock on my '96 Escort. They come as one unit, so you can't just replace the lock tumbler. Remove the steering wheel (using caution for the airbag), and then remove the multi-function switch. Now you can remove the ignition switch and lock.

When changing anything on a car, a person needs a diagram. A person can get an ignition switch diagram for this car, by buying the cars maintenance manual.

Things to check are: ignition switch, manual lever position switch, ignition relay, your starter, and last, your battery. Check all wires, cables and connections for condition and cleanliness.

I've had the same issue, It's a bad ignition switch, replace the ignition switch and you should be good to go. P.S. the ignition switch is located under the steering column, it's held in by 2 screws, but it can be a hassle to remove.

probably because you need a new ignition switch or your cars computer is not receiving the information from the ignition switch that you already have. check your cars wiring diagram for more information.

Remove the ignition switch retaining ring. Pull the ignition switch out. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the ignition switch. Reverse the process to install the new ignition switch.
