Jehovah's Witnesses follow The Bible's standard with regard to gender roles. First, from the perspective of personal worth, Jehovah's Witnesse view the man a woman as being on an equal basis. This is in contrast to many cultures around the world who regard women as second class citizens. Even in such countries, when a man converts to being a Jehovah's Witness, he is required to do as the Bible says in assigning his wife honor.(1 Peter 3:7) Interestingly, that scripture at 1 Peter 3:7 also indicates that a man who fails to show his wife this consideration may have his prayers "hindered," that is God may not listen to his prayers, so Jehovah's Witnesses take this Bible mandate very seriously. Jehovah's Witnesses follow the headship principle as outlined at 1 Corinthians 11:3 that "... the head of every man is the Christ; in turn the head of a woman is the man; in turn the head of the Christ is God. " So, this principle outlines the order of headship, that the man is the head of the household, the husband's head is Christ, and Christ's head is Jehovah God. The man must excercise his headship in a loving and kind way. At Ephesians 5:28,29, the Bible tells husbands to be "... loving their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself, for no man ever hated his own flesh; but he feeds and cherishes it, as the Christ also does the congregation, " So JW husbands are continually instructed to love, cherish, and take care of their wives in a self-sacrificing way, as Christ did for the congregation, and JW wives are reminded to recognise the headship that her husband has in the household.
