I have a 2000 Ford Focus with manual transmission...it has now 165,000 miles and shifts perfectly. I am good with a stick shift though... you can always count on burning-out a clutch with a new driver in any car- I know I did when I was learning.

You don't. Hydraulic clutches are by their very nature self adjusting, if the clutch will not work correctly then you are low on fluid or have another problem.
