How the VKB works?

Step 1: Template creation (Projection Module)

A template of the desired interface is projected onto the adjacent interface surface. The template is produced by illuminating a specially designed, highly efficient holographic optical element with a red diode laser. Note: the template serves only as a reference for the user and is not involved in the detection process. In a fixed environment, the template can just as easily be printed onto the interface surface.

Step 2: Reference plane illumination (Micro-illumination ModuleTM)

An infra-red plane of light is generated just above, and parallel to, the interface surface. This light is invisible to the user and hovers a few millimeters above the surface. When the user touches a key position on the interface surface light is reflected from this plane in the vicinity of the key and directed towards the sensor module.

Step 3: Map reflection coordinates (Sensor Module)

Reflected light from user interactions with the interface surface is passed through an infra-red filter and imaged on to a CMOS image sensor in the sensor module. Custom hardware embedded in the sensor chip (the Virtual Interface Processing CoreTM) then makes a real-time determination of the location of the reflected light. The processing core can track multiple reflection events simultaneously and can thus support both multiple keystrokes and overlapping cursor control inputs.

Step 4: Interpretation and communication (Sensor Module)

The micro-controller in the sensor module receives the positional information corresponding to the light flashes from the sensor processing core, interprets the events (e.g. keydown, keyup, mouse or touchpad control etc..) and communicates them through an appropriate interface to external devices.

I got my unit and i cannot connect it to Samsung i730?

Your Samsung i730 uses the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack. Though the i730 icon is not on the CD, it uses the same driver, and instructions as the i-mate Jam (a.k.a. as Dopod 818/XDA Mini). So...

a. INstall this driver (to check that you have the right driver installed, open the driver, goto VKB->About. Should say at the top V5.0c.b. Turn on your Keyboard. Press Shift-Fn-B for about 2-3 seconds until hearing a beep (your keyboard is now ready for pairing...).c. Tap the VKB Programd. Tap the Connection tab and select Bluetooth from the Virtual Keyboard on dropdown box.e. Press the Search button.f. Upon completion of the search, the drop down list of devices should be filled with VKB Keyboard.g. Tap the VKB tab and check the Enable Keyboard checkbox.h. The software will prompt you for a Bluetooth passkey; Using the keyboard on the screen of the i730, enter a passkey of between 1 and 8 digits (one digit is enough, I always use "9") and then tap Initiate Pairing.i. Listen for the beep on the Virtual Keyboard, then, using the keyboard projected by the Virtual Keyboard repeat the passkey and press return [8].j. The blue LED will go on to show your successful connection. You are now ready to use the keyboard.

Does the VKB (bluetooth) work with windows mobile 5.0 (I am purchaning a smartphone with windows mobile 5.0)?

Depends on which "smartphone" you have. Our keyboard supports both the HID and SPP Bluetooth profiles (services). Some of the newer WM5 models come with built-in HID service and will work as is with the keyboard. The other models will require the new VKB Driver for Windows Mobile 5 which is currently in work and scheduled to be released first week of February.

How does a keyboard make noise?

A piano keyboard makes noise by... There are basically 3 types of keyboards in music (even more in computers), which would be, piano, organ, and electric. Organ keys are connected to valves that release air into tubes (also of different lengths). Electronic keys operate pre-programed sound synthesis mechanisms. What are the features of a concept keyboard?

A concept keyboard is a flat board which contains a grid of switches. Each switch can be programmed to do whatever you want. An overlay image is placed on top of the grid so that the user can tell what pressing on different areas (switches) will do. Example uses of concept keyboards include :Games for young children : The overlay image could be a picture of a farmyard. Pressing on an animal would cause the computer to make the noise the animal does.Tills in restaurants/pubs : The overlay contains a list of all the meals that can be sold. Instead of typing in prices the waiter simply presses the keyboard where the meals/drinks he is serving are listed.Concept keyboards are particularly useful for people who would find using an ordinary keyboard difficult and in locations where an ordinary keyboard might be damaged, e.g. by spillage or dust.
