It all depends on how strong the person is, the longer you lift weights for, the more progress you see. Some can bench twice their weight, some only half.
While lifting a person, the person's center of mass is above our feet and the weight is distributed through shoulders, thorax and abdomen whereas while lifting a cylinder the weight is distributed only through both hands and the center of mass of the cylinder is below the body! Hence it is difficult to lift a cylinder than a person!
