Phoebe was the name of a woman (some say a man) who lived in the 1st Century and was a Deacon in the Roman Christian Church. She is mentioned in St. Pauls epistle to the Romans in the New Testament; (Romans 16:1) and may actually have been the person who delivered that letter.

Yes, there is a St. Phoebe. In the Martyrologium Romanum (Roman Martyrology), you will find her on the September 3 page. She is a Saint from Scripture and you can find her name in Paul's letter to the Romans. Tradition holds that she delivered this letter from Paul to the early Christians of Rome. (Romans 16:1-2) St. Phoebe was from Cenchreae (near Corinth, Greece) ... quite a distance from Rome.
