Is there a smoking area in Bangkok airport?

There is a smoking area under and behind the escalators that lead to/from security at ground level, in the rear before the restrooms. There used to be two smoking areas in the upper (secured) level but during my last trip they appear to have been either moved or dismantled.

Yes. I as there on 23/8/11. International departure there are 3 smoking rooms. Gate c1a c2a and d2.these are through both security and customs so no need to go back outside. Domestic terminal has no smoking rooms however so will need to puff away before going through security. Smoking rooms I'm Bangkok international ate pretty gross but not as bad as Phuket international. Only 3 very small extraction fans whereas Bangkok has larger extraction fans but with a full room is still gross. But with a long flight ahead that doesnt seem to bother anyone. Hope this helps my fellow smokers traveling through Bangkok or Phuket international terminals.
