Was there a us army 55th aviation co in Seoul Korea in 1965?
Yes there was. I was stationed with the 55th Aviation Co on Yoido (Island) in the Han River from May 1965 to October 1966. There's an article by a Huey pilot at www.angelfire.com/ga3/galkie/korea.html that includes mention of the unit and a photo of the 55th's 'Dragon' shoulder patch. The 55th and Air Force units shared the runway there. Eighth Army officers and other military flew in and out of there almost daily. There were Mohawk, Bird Dog, Beech King (or Queen) Air and other fixed-wing aircraft, as well as Huey and Hiller rotary-wing aircraft. And then the Air Force had other types of aircraft. We were forced to leave the island for a few weeks in the summers of 1965 and 1966 because of successive 100-year floods of the Han River that raised the Han River to chest high in our BOQ's. I was an 'observer' in the Mohawk surveillance aircraft, and flew missions along the DMZ and practice low-level missions to photograph various features in South Korea. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, and flying experience. I will try to research some more and provide info if anyone is interested. I was also with the 55th in the summer of 1967, I was a Crew Chief on the Mohawk I was stationed there for about 6 months; and then transferred to Headquarters co 7 th Infrantry Division sent to camp Casey & then to Camp Matta on the DMZ. I was in the 55th Aviation Co as a photo lab technician but made an engineer due to the fact that the photo lab tech was extendened all due to the capture of the Pulebo
