Yes. there are stores in Burlington and Bennington, and quite possibly others.

Aldi got its name from ALbrecht DIscount stores. The Albrecht brothers started with conventional supermarket stores, before hitting on the AlDi formula. They only have about 1400 items per store, and instead of have an item in 3-4 sizes in each of 3-4 brands, they simplify shopping by having one size if one brand - and they have their own brand instead of a name brand unless they cannot equal or beat name brand quality. Walmart pulled out of the German supermarket business because they couldn't compete with AlDi.

But there are two separate AlSi chains. The brothers split up the world into two parts in order to eliminate differences between themselves, each brother taking half. They are friendly, and often adopt ideas from each other.

The Super-Valu wholesale company uses many of the AlDi ideas in their Sav-A-Lot stores.

A 2010 book called "Competing in Tough Times: Business Lessons from L.L.Bean, Trader Joe's, Costco, and Other World-Class Retailers" by Barry Berman provides really interesting reading about Aldi, who Berman considers a world class retailer.
