Ours did that. found it was the radio antenna that was trying to go down but wouldn't. We disconnected the motor on the antenna and it didn't do it anymore. It is a start
possibly the crank angle or cam sensors Or injectors
It is by the rear wheel near the fuel tank.
If you have a hoist it would be easier, but, if you do not have then high on jack stands. There is a cut out in the front of the fuel tank under the car.
It's difficult to get to. The filter is in front of the fuel tank, up and above the tank. It might even be easier to partially drop the tank.
You will need to raise the vehicle, drain the fuel tank, remove the driveshaft to make access to the fuel tank easier, and remove the fuel tank. Once the fuel tank is out, remove the fuel tank lockring and replace the fuel pump. It is recommended that you replace the fuel filter as well.
Fuel filter is inside the gas tank, it has to be dropped and the unit taken out. Sry but it is a real pain to do, I suggest you go to a shop for it.
The fuel filter is usually located between the fuel tank and the floor of the vehicle, next to the fuel pump. It is accessed from the underside center of the vehicle and is often easier to change out if the tank straps are loosened and the tank dropped somewhat.
Your fuel lines have fitting that can be taken off with simple disconnects from Autozone. Tell them you need Ford fuel line disconnects. Just clamp the disconnect on and pull the line off and change the filter. Someone at AZ will tell you how. -bronomudder89
Change the fuel filter first. If that doesn't help, change the fuel pump.
You have to remove the rear seat cushion in order to access the fuel tank during this procedure. The fuel pump is located inside of the fuel tank, so this step is key to the entire procedure.
You can change it without removing gas tank But it is tucked under the gas tank and is much easier to replace once the tank is dropped..
Follow the fuel rail down the flex hose and it should be on the fire wall. It is easier to get to if you take the left front tire and stone shield off and go in through the hole.
