Some nightclubs are "18 to party, 21 to drink." You only have to be 18 to enter. If you're 21 or older, you get a special wristband or a hand stamp at the door, so the bartenders know who they can serve alcohol to.
Some concerts are also 18+, and again, if you're 21 or older, you get a wristband or a stamp on your hand that you show to the bartender to prove you are of legal drinking age.

...Seriously.
If you're over 21 -- or if you have a good fake ID -- you will get a handstamp or a wristband at the door that lets the bartender know you're allowed to drink.
