No. How could there be? The "stroke" of an engine is the piston going up or down. If the spark plug fires and piston goes down, then up,and then fires again, then it's a two-stroke engine. IN a 4-stroke engine, the spark plug fires, piston does down, then up to exhaust the cylinder, then down to suck in fresh air and cool the cylinder, and up again to compress, and the spark plug fires every other "up".

How could you have a "three-stroke" engine? The spark plug fires and the explosion pushes the piston down, and the crankshaft pushes it back up. Then back down. If the spark plug fires while the piston is DOWN, the engine will seize up.

Nope. In a piston engine, the number of "strokes" is always an even number.

For radial or Wankel engines, things are different - but in those there is no piston, and no "stroke".

What is different between 4 stroke engine and 6 stroke engine?

As per my knowledge, There is no any 6 stroke engine in existance. The engines are catagorised as 2 Stroke and 4 stroke engines. The difference is 1)Suction 2)Compression 3)Ignition and 4) Exhaust (called power cycle) complete in 2 or 4 strokes.

Can side cam engine be installed in 4 stroke or 2 stroke engine?

sidecam engine cannot be installed in 2 stroke engine because in 2 stroke engine we have inlet & exhaust ports not valves... so when piston moves up and down it automatically opens the inlet and exhaust ports so it does not require any camshaft for opening of valves as it is required in 4 stroke engine

In which stroke of a four-stroke engine does a spark plug ignite the gas?

On the third stroke. 1-Intake stroke. 2-Compression stroke. 3-Power stroke (spark) 4-Exhaust stroke.

What is a cycle in a 4 cycle engine?

The 4 strokes of an internal combustion engine are as follows:- 1 Induction stroke 2 Compression stroke 3 Power stroke 4 Exhaust stoke

Why are they calledFour-stroke engine?

Because it takes 4 strokes to complete i cycle. 1, intake stroke. 2, compression stroke. 3, power stroke. 4, exhaust stroke.

Can you design a 3-stroke engine?

3-stroke is possible theoritically but may not be practical. So can anyone answer this or design it. I have designed it which takes only 3 cycles but not 3-strokes.

On a 4-cylinder engine that has a firing order of 1342 if number 1 cylinder is on the exhaust stroke what stroke is number 3 cylinder on?

On a 4-cylinder engine with a firing order of 1342, if number 1 cylinder is on the exhaust stroke, the number 3 cylinder will be on the induction stroke.
