Eric Shipton did not see a yeti, he found a footprint that he thought belongs to a yeti in 1951 while on the British Mount Everest expedition.

The scientific name for the yeti is Homo sapiens nonexistis, which means a non-existent species of the Homo sapiens (human) genus.
It is impossible to tell exactly when the first sighting was. Mountain people in Nepal have been seeing Yeti for hundreds of years. The Yeti hasn't really been discovered yet, but a footprint was found in the 1950s that some claim is the footprint of a Yeti. There is no evidence to date to support this claim.
The yeti or "abominable snowman" is an ape-like cryptid. It is a legend that is thought to inhabit Nepal and Tibet. There is no actual 'color' of the yeti. It is usually depicted as white. This is probably because it is found in these cooler regions. The yeti can be thought of as a parallel to the North American Big Foot.

Real evidence that a yeti is real might be found in places that it is said to inhabit. One of the places is in the Himalayan Mountains in the country of Tibet.
They have found them both in The Himalayan Mountain or Mt. Everest.
