Mei Trow used modern police forensic techniques, including psychological and geographical profiling, to identify Robert Mann, a morgue attendant, as the killer.
His theory, the result of two years intensive research, is explored in a Discovery Channel documentary, Jack the Ripper: Killer Revealed.
Trow's research is rooted in information from a 1988 FBI examination of the Ripper case, which had worked up a comprehensive criminal personality profile.
The portrait drawn up of Jack was as a white male from the lower social classes, most likely the product of a broken home.
It was also thought he would have had a menial job but with some anatomical knowledge, something like a butcher, mortuary or medical examiner's assistant or hospital attendant.
The only connection is the word Ripper. Jack The Ripper is the name for a 19th century serial killer that killed prostitutes in London's impoverished east end known as Whitechapel. The Yorkshire Ripper is Peter Suttcliff who was convicted of 13 murders in 1981. The New York Ripper is a fictonal character.

One of the most controversial Ripper theories was made in Stephen Knight's 1978 book, JACK THE RIPPER: THE FINAL SOLUTION. In it, Knight weaves a fascinating tapestry of conspiracy involving virtually every person who has ever been a Ripper suspect plus a few new ones. Knight's conspiracy has become the most popular Ripper theory ever despite strong objections raised by Ripperologists such as Donald Rumbelow and the recanting of pertinent testimony from Knight's key informant. Still, it has received the most exposure and support of any Ripper theory and continues to appear in other areas of popular culture. Clearly, it manages to appeal to a great number of people.
The New York Ripper was created on 1982-03-04.
Jack is more famous. He reached media in a metropolitan area making him the first known serial killer. His fame reached all over the globe. BTK and the zodiac killed more people than the ripper did. The zodiac killer as a serial killer was better or worse than Jack the ripper even in the times when technology makes it easier to trap a killer.
The hunters discover the little volcanic island. Jack views the discovery as a potential shelter and sees the opportunity to establish his power and authority on the new land.
Although Jack The Ripper was not the world's first serial murderer he was different in at least one respect. His crimes were so well known because of the media frenzy that surrounded these murders. He got so much publicity not just in London or even in England but world-wide. Americans and many other countries were facinated with these horrible murders and because of new communication technology the world could hear about his exploits within a short amount of time.
