Unfortunately, there is no formal training or licensing required of politicians. Most have an avid interest in the political machine, and many have college degrees in history, law or political science. On the left, many politicians are attorneys as knowing how to manipulate the law is helpful. On the right, you'll find more businessmen and even a few physicians. What is required is a keen sense of how politics works, and great skill in networking and negotiations. It's mostly about connections.
