Dementia is the progressive decline in cognitive function due to damage or disease in the brain beyond what might be expected from normal aging.

Dementia is far more common in the geriatric population but it may occur in any stage of adulthood.

Since there is no cure for dementia, the best an individual can do is to prevent it from developing in the first place by leading an active life and using ones faculties in full - as the saying goes - "use it or lose it".
