Type 1 Diabetes is a disorder in which there is an insufficient production of insulin and resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. If the pancreas was removed then you would need to compensate for the loss of the pancreatic functions. Insulin would need to be reintroduced into the body. There is an incredible support system for people with type 1 diabetes. Try www.dsok.net or www.jdrf.org

What does the pancreas control?

The pancreas controls the insulin and blood sugar levels in your body. Without a pancreas, you would be a type-1 diabetic.

Can you get pancreatic cancer if your pancreas does not work ie type 1 diabetic?

Yes, if the organ is present, it can become cancerous.

Can the pancreas be surgically removed?

Technically, it can be. Reasons for removing the pancreas might include cancer or trauma (such as a car accident). The pancreas is responsible for producing digestive enzymes and the body's supply of insulin. Without it, you would become a Type-1 Diabetic and would need to take insulin shots and digestive enzymes.

How can you lose your pancreas?

Consult a doctor. Without a pancreas you would immediately become a type-1 diabetic (as the pancreas produces the blood sugar your body needs to function). This would require monitoring your blood sugar levels on a daily basis, a strict diet, exercise and possibly insulin shots. You would also need to take digestive enzymes with each meal as another function of the pancreas, that you are now lacking, is to produce such enzymes.

What type medicine helps pancres workbetter?

Why does the pancreas does not work even it gets insulin?

The pancreas is supposed to make insulin, glucagon, and enzymes. When you become a diabetic, either the pancreas stops making insulin, or the cells in the body are unable to use insulin. If the pancreas stops making insulin, that is type one diabetes, and if the body cannot use insulin, that is type two diabetes. While it is possible to cause type one diabetes with alcohol abuse, both forms of diabetes are often a result of an immune response. Type one diabetes is usually childhood onset, and a virus or the immune system attacks the pancreas. Type two diabetes is often acquired through bad diet. You might get so much fat and plaques from the fat that the body mistakes it for invaders. So the body ends up targeting insulin receptors.

Who identified the pancreas as a problem?

The pancreas has many important functions in the body. If there is dysfunction in the pancreas, such as the autoimmune condition of Type 1 diabetes where the beta cells have been destroyed, they are unable to secrete insulin and the patient's blood sugar can become elevated.

Which diabetes does the offspring get if one has diabetes?

Diabetes is a complicated disease. Sometimes it skips from generation to generation, not every person who has diabetes will pass it onto their children. As for what type of diabetes will be passed on depends also. It can be Type 1/Juvenile Diabetes or Type 2 Diabetes. Juvenile/Type 1 is an onset at an early age most of the time, I developed full blown Type 1 at the age of 17, some are born with Type 1, and sometimes it doesn't set in until later on. Type 1 is inevitable because it is genetic and cannot be prevented. Type 2 can be prevented if a person stays healthy and fit. Supposedly Drew Carey is not longer a Type 2 Diabetic because he lost all his weight and his pancreas is now working correctly. However, there is also pre-diabetes, which is where the pancreas is starting to not produce enough insulin; that will, in turn, cause a person to be first type 2 once the pancreas fails to produce sufficient amounts of insulin, and possibly later on the pancreas could cease to produce any insulin, making a person type 1 diabetic. I have a few friends who have diabetic relatives and they are pre-diabetic and their blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but they aren't in danger for diabetes just yet. Hope this helps.
