it depends what your error is. I do know of one common one that gives people headaches very often and involves fonts. If it is something like "Cannot open due to read-only embedded fonts", then you are probably out of luck. In fact, some people who make profesional presentations use this trick so you can't edit the presentation, only open it. I have this problem myself.
